Over the past 20 years, the Denver Metro area has successfully diversified its economy with industries from aerospace to energy. As a result, the Rocky Mountain region is faring better than the rest of the country with lower unemployment, higher job growth and more consumer confidence than most. With a population of just over 2.8 million people and a growth rate that has consistently outpaced the national rate in every decade since the 1930’s, Metro Denver’s population is anticipated to increase to almost 3.8 million over the next 2 decades, an increase of 36%.
With a healthy cross section of industries, it’s not surprising that Denver’s economic engine attracts a young, diverse and talented workforce. Metro Denver is one of the top regions in the country for transit oriented development (TOD). The $6.5 billion FasTracks transit expansion program will be built over the next 10 years, providing unique opportunities for mixed use development, relieving congestion on our roads and providing workers an easier commute. Downtown Denver’s historic Union Station will be the central hub of the new regional transit system which will undergo a $1 billion redevelopment effort and is currently underway. With all of this positive activity, plus the quality of life the Front Range provides, it’s not surprising that the Pew Research Center recently ranked Denver the #1 city where people most want to live.
